Clinical Lab Associate 1, Laboratory Service Center - Part-Time, Day Shift

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, as a Clinical Lab Associate 1 (Phlebotomist) in the Lab Service Center department. Here, you will perform phlebotomy tasks, provide order entry, central processing, EKGs, laboratory testing, and assist with DOTs and BATs as needed. When full competency at level 1 is achieved, you may be elevated to CLA level 2. This position is 100% onsite and requires you to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Responsibilities

• Performs assigned supportive work in conjunction with patient care, including office, clerical, technical duties, venipuncture, blood specimen collection, EKGs, and functional skills.
• Interacts, intervenes, and problem-solves to ensure exceptional customer service by greeting patients, responding to telephone inquiries, and distributing test results.
• Processes human specimens for delivery to specific laboratory departments for testing.
• Performs technical procedures for which training has been given and competency demonstrated.
• Utilizes interactive processes to exceed expectations of patients, physicians, families, or significant others in providing high-quality, cost-effective care and treatments.
• Demonstrates necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to unit-specific competencies.
• Adapts to varying degrees of unpredictability in daily work schedules and assignments.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of HIS and LIS systems and progresses to functional capabilities with hospital billing computer systems.
• Learns to run lab testing.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited phlebotomy course or program.
• AHA CPR Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification by one of the following organizations:
  • ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists)
  • AMT (American Medical Technologist)
  • NCCLS (National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards)
  • NPA (National Phlebotomy Association)
  • ASCLS (American Society for Clinical Laboratory Scientists)
  • NCA (National Certifying Agency)
  • NHA (National Healthcare Association)

Schedule

• Part-Time/0.7 FTE (approximately 28 hours per week).
• Day shift with varying start times between 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM.
• No on-call shifts.
• 100% onsite at the Ingalls campus in Harvey, IL.
• Weekend work (Saturday and/or Sunday) required every other week.
