About the role
The Clinical Lab Associate 4 position is located in the Laboratory Service Center department at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, a world-class academic healthcare system. This is a 100% onsite opportunity based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Responsibilities
- Delivers samples to appropriate departments within acceptable time limits.
- Maintains accuracy and timeliness of STAT out-patient tests and promptly notifies referring physician/agency.
- Ensures timely registration of specimens and handling of special accounts.
- Ensures timely relay of patient results by investigating delays and monitoring specimen collection.
- Performs venipunctures and specimen collections following policies and procedures.
- Prepares specimens for sending to outside reference laboratories.
- Provides excellent customer service to outpatients presenting for specimen collection.
- Enters physician ordered tests into the LIS system.
Requirements
- Completed high school or equivalent.
- Successful completion of accredited phlebotomy course or program.
- At least 6 months full-time employment involving phlebotomy, and/or laboratory, medical or clerical experience, with emphasis on customer service.
- Performance of phlebotomy and/or cardiology skills with a minimum pass rate of 80 percent as assessed by competency tools.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and basic computer skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, and co-workers.
- Ability to function effectively in an extended team environment.
- Ability to resolve conflict effectively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-critical department.
- Ability to give and receive feedback.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
