About the role

The Clinical Lab Associate 4 position is located in the Laboratory Service Center department at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, a world-class academic healthcare system. This is a 100% onsite opportunity based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers samples to appropriate departments within acceptable time limits.
  • Maintains accuracy and timeliness of STAT out-patient tests and promptly notifies referring physician/agency.
  • Ensures timely registration of specimens and handling of special accounts.
  • Ensures timely relay of patient results by investigating delays and monitoring specimen collection.
  • Performs venipunctures and specimen collections following policies and procedures.
  • Prepares specimens for sending to outside reference laboratories.
  • Provides excellent customer service to outpatients presenting for specimen collection.
  • Enters physician ordered tests into the LIS system.

Requirements

  • Completed high school or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of accredited phlebotomy course or program.
  • At least 6 months full-time employment involving phlebotomy, and/or laboratory, medical or clerical experience, with emphasis on customer service.
  • Performance of phlebotomy and/or cardiology skills with a minimum pass rate of 80 percent as assessed by competency tools.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and basic computer skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, and co-workers.
  • Ability to function effectively in an extended team environment.
  • Ability to resolve conflict effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-critical department.
  • Ability to give and receive feedback.

Qualifications
