Clinical Instructor - NC MATTERS and IMPACTT-NC

About the role

The Virtual Care Division of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a full-time, fixed-term Clinical Instructor to join the two teams operating in the Division – the perinatal psychiatry access program (NC MATTERS) and IMPACTT-NC.

NC MATTERS enhances care of perinatal patients with behavioral health needs in primary care settings through provider education, capacity building, and care coordination support. IMPACTT-NC provides virtual direct clinical care to youth through schools and community sites throughout North Carolina.

Responsibilities

• Spend 70% of their time as a Behavioral Health Coordinator (BHC), supporting expansion of perinatal mental health services in selected rural counties in North Carolina.
• Supporting provider outreach and engagement activities.
• Facilitating access to NC MATTERS consultation and training services.
• Providing resource and referral support.
• Aiding in care coordination for pregnant and postpartum patients with behavioral health needs.
• Helping strengthen local referral pathways and transitions of care.
• Through the IMPACTT-NC program, providing direct patient care (including assessing, diagnosing, and providing therapy to children and youth ages 5-18).
• Participating in multidisciplinary meetings and connecting with school and community partners as needed.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Social Work or a related field from a CSWE-accredited program.
• Must be licensed in North Carolina; associate or fully licensed clinicians accepted.
• Minimum of two (2) years of full-time clinical social work (or related field) experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of perinatal, early childhood and/or youth mental health conditions and evidence-based treatment approaches.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with health care professionals via phone, email, secure messaging, and in person.
• Experience with clinical assessment and treatment planning for perinatal, early childhood, and/or youth populations.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

• Current, unrestricted licensure as a North Carolina Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), or licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC) in the state of North Carolina in good standing by the beginning date of the appointment.
• Prefer a minimum of two (2) years of full-time post-licensure clinical work experience.
• Experience providing consultation, care coordination, or support to health care providers (e.g., psychiatry access programs, integrated care settings).
• Knowledge of issues related to working with underserved populations.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in documentation, resource management, and follow-up.
• Familiarity with academic medical centers, public-sector programs, or community mental health systems.
• Experience contributing to development of training, educational, or clinical content for professional or general audiences.
• Comfort using virtual platforms and technology for consultation, training, and providing therapy to youth.
• Familiarity with evidence-informed practices such as trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, infant and early childhood mental health frameworks, and/or behavioral health integration in primary care.
