About the Role
Provides high-quality didactic and clinical instruction in a specialized field to ensure students meet course outcomes. Collaborates with college staff and colleagues to enhance the learning experience, conducts research or scholarship, and provides service to internal and external communities. May include administrative duties.
Responsibilities
- Teaching:
- Delivers high-quality instruction to ensure students meet course outcomes.
- Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, and instructional methods.
- Prepares course materials such as syllabi, assignments, and handouts.
- Identifies specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
- Facilitates and moderates classroom discussions.
- Assists students with coursework outside of class.
- Maintains student attendance, grades, and other required records.
- Evaluates and grades students' work, including exams, assignments, and clinic work.
- Compiles, administers, and grades examinations or delegates this task.
- Maintains office hours to advise and assist students.
- Advises student organizations, ensuring adherence to policies.
- Clinical Instruction:
- Assesses clinical education and patient/client teaching needs using various methods.
- Demonstrates patient care in clinical units.
- Research & Scholarship:
- Conducts research in a specialized field and publishes findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.
- Reviews papers for publication in journals.
- Service & Professional Development:
- Participates in campus and community events, such as public presentations.
- Identifies and provides services related to fields of expertise for internal and external communities.
- Other Assigned Duties:
- Collaborates with staff and colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
- Serves on academic or administrative committees.
- Mentors junior and adjunct faculty members.
- Stays current with developments in the field through literature, discussions, and professional conferences.
- Performs other assigned duties as required.
Requirements
- Education: DDS/DMD or foreign equivalent dentistry degree.
- Experience:
- Professional doctoral-level teaching experience or minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Periodontist in private practice.
- For Assistant Professor rank: College-level teaching experience.
- For Associate Professor rank: Four (4) years of full-time university teaching at the rank of Assistant Professor, with scholarly contributions recognized by peers.
- For Professor rank: Five (5) years of full-time university teaching at the rank of Associate Professor, with significant scholarly contributions recognized as substantial by peers.
- Preferred Qualifications: Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Periodontology from a CODA-accredited institution.
