About the role

The Clinical Nurse is responsible for the management of nursing patient care across two faculty practice sites including a hospital sponsored teaching clinic. In addition to the primary responsibilities within the division of General Dermatology, the clinical nurse will be expected to assist in other department divisions including Oncology Dermatology.

Responsibilities

  • GENERAL DERMATOLOGY

    • Coordinating patient care
    • Aiding in all procedures
    • Developing a nurse-patient/family relationship
    • Assessing and managing patients within all patient age groups from pediatrics to geriatrics
    • Performing diagnostic testing and analyzing results
    • Recording patient information meticulously
    • Communicating with patients to extract information and explain treatment and follow-up plans
    • Following up on laboratory and pathology results
    • Answering pre- and post-procedural questions
    • Ordering lab tests and medication under the guidance of the physician
    • Gathering data and acting as a liaison
    • Assisting physicians in assessment, evaluation, and management of patient care
    • Reporting clinical activity to supervising physician
    • Assisting in surgical procedures
    • Preparing, diluting, drawing up medication as needed for use in the faculty practice and Resident clinic
    • Preparing equipment and aiding physician during patient examinations, surgical procedures, and diagnostic testing of patients
    • Observing, recording, and reporting patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians
    • Dispensing medication as directed
    • Providing back-up support for Dermatology medical procedures in both faculty practices and Resident Dermatology clinic
    • Maintaining exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials
    • Ensuring cleanliness
    • Providing support when preparing list of supplies needed
    • Providing coverage to monitor and assess patients during and after selected therapies
    • Attending staff meetings, patient support meetings, and continuing education pertaining to specialty as appropriate
    • Participating in all quality improvement/process improvement initiatives
    • Participating in sign-out activities and all patient follow up
    • Providing patient and family education and counseling including disease state, management/plan of care, side effects, treatment, medications, all follow up
    • Performing phone triage as appropriate and providing phone follow up/direction to patient appropriate to situation
    • Ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory agency standards (e.g., OSHA, JCAHO, DOH, HIPAA, billing compliance, etc.)
  • ONCOLOGY DERMATOLOGY

    • Administering extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) treatments to patients with Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma (CTCL) using the Therakos™ Cellex™ Photopheresis System
    • Assessing patients using all available physical and diagnostic data, incorporating medical history and evaluating patient status and progress with current plan of care
    • Maintaining exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials
    • Collaborating with the clinical trials team to identify eligible patients and enroll them in ongoing ECP-related trials
    • Administering treatments in accordance with clinical trial protocols, ensuring adherence to study guidelines
    • Collecting, documenting, and reporting data related to clinical trial participation, including patient responses and any adverse events
    • Scheduling and coordinating ECP treatments, ensuring timely and efficient care for all CTCL patients
    • Liaising with the interdisciplinary team, including dermatologists, hematologists, and clinical trial coordinators, to provide comprehensive patient care
    • Participating in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in photopheresis and CTCL care
    • Attending relevant conferences, workshops, and seminars to stay informed about advancements in ECP technology and treatment protocols

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent in education and experience; 4 years or more of related experience
  • Clinical rotation experience associated with BSN degree programs will be applied toward related experience requirements
  • BLS certification (or eligible)
  • ACLS certification (or eligible)
  • Current New York State RN License (or eligible)

Qualifications

  • General Dermatology and photopheresis or Hematology/Oncology experience strongly preferred

Skills

  • Knowledge of medical safety practices and ability to evaluate existing standards and implement new policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of current clinical best practices and clinical state-of-the-art procedures
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care
  • Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills
  • Epic electronic medical record, Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within diverse workgroups
  • Ability to identify problems, research and recommend solutions, develop and maintain quality systems, and exercise a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and independent decision-making
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Capability to lift and move equipment and supplies as needed

Benefits

Salary range: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

Schedule

Standard Work Schedule: M-F; 9AM-5PM
