About the role

The Clinical Account Specialist (CAS) is a field-based role responsible for supporting the launch and growth of Ionis’s first wholly owned commercial product in the Philadelphia, PA territory. This role focuses on expanding the product’s indication from Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome (FCS) to severe hypertriglyceridemia (SHTG). The CAS will engage key customers, identify opportunities to improve patient care, and build partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem to drive performance and advance Ionis goals.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the unique objectives and needs of each customer to improve patient outcomes by building and leveraging networks and relationships in the local healthcare system.
  • Develop and execute effective business plans to meet customer and Ionis goals, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Educate healthcare providers (HCPs) and office staff on sHTG disease state awareness, diagnostic pathways, and treatment prioritization.
  • Create a positive prescribing experience through value-added resources, support materials, and programs for HCPs and patients.
  • Participate in conferences, congresses, and scientific meetings to educate HCPs on sHTG disease state and treatment options.
  • Gather insights to profile accounts and provide feedback to field leadership and marketing to inform product sales and marketing strategy.
  • Understand local referral networks, including primary and secondary treaters, and referral patterns for sHTG patients.
  • Identify, validate, and document potential HCPs treating sHTG patients to inform commercial strategy.
  • Execute brand strategic plans by developing customer-focused territory and account plans to maximize business opportunities.
  • Adjust strategies to meet business goals in an assigned region through territory insights.
  • Develop strategic account plans in conjunction with field and brand leadership to engage accounts based on customer needs.
  • Participate in field meetings and training programs to understand brand messaging, disease state, and customer engagement tactics.
  • Certify on approved label, compliance training, and all applicable customer engagement policies.
  • Adhere to the company’s mission, vision, policies, and Ionis Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.
  • Partner with cross-functional teammates to address customer needs and ensure a compliant, high-standard patient experience.
  • Share learnings from customer engagement activities with field team members and leadership.
  • Leverage available platforms and technology to compliantly engage customers through multiple channels.
  • Collaborate on accounts with patients seen by multiple specialties across geographies.

Qualifications

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and driving record in compliance with company standards.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical sales, with expertise in:
    • New product launches.
    • Account-based selling.
    • HCP and IDN engagement.
    • Cross-functional field team coordination.
    • Independent management of a sales territory.
  • Background in cardiology, endocrinology, or other sub-specialties treating FCS patients.
  • Injectable experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with treating cardiometabolic and lipid-related diseases, such as severe hypertriglyceridemia (sHTG).
  • Established relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and major accounts.
  • Ability to analyze market data and develop territory strategies.
  • Record of navigating complex accounts and aligning solutions with patient needs.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and commitment to addressing patient needs.
