About the role
The Clerk position is responsible for coordinating and executing operational, workforce, and administrative functions across terminal, vessel, warehouse, and maintenance environments. This role supports cargo documentation, labor planning, dispatching, inventory coordination, and timekeeping processes. The position serves as a liaison between frontline teams and management, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with company standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s Degree or technical training preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in operations, maintenance, workforce planning, dispatch, or timekeeping.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and enterprise systems (e.g., Dayforce).
- Ability to read and write in English; bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- TWIC card is required for employment.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company insurability standards.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, rain, cold).
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- May work near moving mechanical parts and in noisy environments.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and climb ladders as needed.
Responsibilities
- Operational Coordination: Oversee and verify cargo movement documentation (discharge, stowing, loading). Provide direction and support to Clerk I and Checker levels. Coordinate with terminal, vessel, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth cargo flow. Communicate with customers, port captains, truck lines, and receiving yards to optimize import/export operations. Monitor inventory levels and assist in reconciliation and reporting.
- Workforce Planning, Timekeeping & Dispatch: Assist in short-term labor planning and scheduling across multiple terminals. Dispatch labor resources based on operational needs and priorities. Track labor utilization and support equitable workforce allocation. Coordinate mobile labor logistics, including travel, lodging, and transportation. Liaise with temporary labor vendors and verify service delivery and invoicing. Maintain accurate timekeeping records using HR systems. Code job assignments and ensure timely data entry for payroll processing. Monitor attendance and support disciplinary documentation. Generate and distribute daily reports related to labor, cargo, and inventory. Support compliance with safety, operational, and HR policies.
