About the role
The Classroom Assistant Teacher position involves working closely with a Classroom Teacher to ensure all required home visits, conferences, and assessments are completed on time. This includes creating and updating Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs), guiding children through activities, maintaining a safe and healthy environment, and participating in meal service and bus duties.
Responsibilities
- Schedule, complete, and track all required home visits/conferences, developmental screenings, and ongoing assessments.
- Create and update individualized plans with parents to address each child’s needs and track progress.
- Guide and facilitate activities, including daily activities, field trips, and classroom set-up.
- Implement children's IEPs or IFSPs, seek clarification for unclear aspects, and assist in completing required reports.
- Maintain written and verbal communication with families, capturing ongoing dialog regarding developmental progress and other pertinent information.
- Communicate with children at eye level, using appropriate tone of voice, and modeling and questioning to extend children's thinking and language.
- Assist in implementing children's IEPs or IFSPs, and participate in family-style meal service.
- Follow health and safety policies and procedures, including conducting health and safety checklists, daily child observation, diapering/toileting/handwashing, injury/accident prevention, and sanitizing.
- Work with the teacher to generate and collect non-federal share (In-kind).
- Communicate with bus drivers/bus monitors about daily activities, behaviors, and related issues, and assist in loading/unloading children on the school bus.
- Attend all staff meetings, trainings, in-service trainings, and center activities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Have a valid High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Possess a Preschool (PS) Child Development Associate credential or state-awarded certificate meeting/exceeding CDA requirements, or be enrolled in a CDA program immediately upon acceptance of position.
- Complete within 1 year some childcare experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Preferred bilingual in Spanish and English (oral and written).
- Basic computer skills, including data entry and internet usage.
- Reliable transportation; hold a valid driver's license and adequate car insurance.
- Flexible, irregular hours with some travel.
