About the role

The Classroom Assistant Teacher position at UMOS involves working closely with a Classroom Teacher to ensure all required home visits, conferences, and assessments are completed and documented. This includes creating and updating Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs) and guiding children through various activities.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and complete home visits/conferences, developmental screenings, and ongoing assessments.
  • Create and update individualized plans with parents to address each child’s needs and track progress.
  • Guide and facilitate daily activities, field trips, and classroom activities based on standards and policies.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment by following health and safety policies and conducting daily checks.
  • Implement children's IEPs or IFSPs, seek clarification for unclear aspects, and assist in completing required reports.
  • Communicate with families and children, maintaining open dialogue about developmental progress and other relevant information.
  • Participate in family-style meal service, assist with children's social and self-help skills, and ensure proper nutrition and documentation.
  • Follow health and safety protocols, including storing hazardous materials safely, conducting daily observations, and responding to accidents.
  • Generate and collect non-federal share funds, work with the teacher to maintain positive guidance, and supervise children during all activities.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and center activities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Have a valid High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Possess a Preschool (PS) Child Development Associate credential or equivalent state-awarded certificate.
  • Complete a CDA program within one year of starting the position.
  • Have some childcare experience (preferred).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills (preferred bilingual in Spanish and English).
  • Basic computer skills (data entry, internet usage).
  • Have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license with adequate insurance.
  • Work flexible, irregular hours with some travel.

Physical, Sensory, And Environmental Demands

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending. Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs. Frequent exposure to temperature variations, moderate to high noise levels, occasional bumpy travel conditions, and exposure to hazardous materials. Exposure to bumpy travel conditions. Frequent use of tools and equipment such as phones, computers, fax machines, copy machines, laminators, calculators, first aid equipment, fire extinguishers, and personal protective gear.
