About the Role
The Classroom Teacher II will implement educational programs, maintain documentation, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and nutritional regulations in an early childhood setting.
Responsibilities
- Schedule, complete, and track all required home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
- Schedule and complete child developmental screenings and assessments.
- Ensure collection and timely online entry of classroom observations and documentations.
- Complete assessment finalization checkpoints for all children within specified time frames.
- Use assessment results to create and update individualized plans with parents to address each child’s needs and track progress.
- Plan and implement indoor and outdoor learning environments and experiences using the Creative Curriculum System, UMOS School Readiness Plan, and the Head Start Early Learning Outcome Framework.
- Implement daily activity plans, field trips, and transition activities; submit required documents to the Child Development Coordinator in a timely manner.
- Implement Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) for children with disabilities, integrating goals into lesson planning and tracking progress.
- Maintain required documentation (e.g., child roster, absentee list, meal count, case notes, developmental screenings, assessments) and submit reports to the Child Development Coordinator.
- Maintain communication with families regarding developmental progress and pertinent information using the PFCE Framework.
- Document and maintain the Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, including family-style meals.
- Implement health and safety policies (e.g., storage of hazardous materials, health checklists, injury prevention, sanitizing, universal precautions).
- Participate in weekly generation and collection of non-federal shares (In-kind).
- Use positive guidance strategies to promote positive behaviors and conduct direct sight and sound supervision of children at all times.
- Assist with arrival/departure of children, set up/clean-up of environments, and communicate with bus staff and parents.
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and center activities as assigned; may assist in training or supporting other teaching staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Be 21 years of age or older.
- Hold an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood or a related field with 18 college credit hours in Early Childhood Education, or a state-issued Teaching License for pre-kindergarten or early childhood (regular or special education).
- Preferred teaching experience with children ages 0–5.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; bilingual in Spanish and English (oral and written) preferred.
- Basic computer skills, including data entry and internet use.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and adequate car insurance.
- Ability to work flexible/irregular hours with some travel.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Frequently stand, walk, sit, and bend; occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.
- Occasionally drive and ride school buses; exposed to bumpy travel conditions.
- Frequently exposed to moderate temperatures in a controlled environment and moderate to high noise levels.
- Use tools and equipment such as phones, computers, fax/copy machines, laminators, calculators, first aid equipment, and fire extinguishers.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
- Successful completion of a criminal background check prior to employment.
- Physical exam and TB screening showing absence of Tuberculosis within 30 days of employment.
- Completion of SIDS & Shaken Baby Training prior to working with children.
- Fire Extinguisher Training.
- Proof of certification in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid within 30 days of employment.
- Registration in the State Childcare Registry.
