Classroom Aide

Requirements

• Have completed at least 2 years of post-secondary study
• Possess an associate degree
• Meet a rigorous standard of quality through completion of Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators in Pennsylvania and 5 years of relative experience

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher is preferred
• A High School Diploma or GED
• 3-5 years of experience

Responsibilities

• Work under the direction of a certified Special Education Teacher to support and assist in providing instructional programs and services to children with disabilities or eligible young children
• Support and assist in classroom management and implementation of positive behavioral support plans
• Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, etc. as assigned by the classroom teacher
• Supervise students in designated areas and as assigned (e.g. hallways, bathrooms, cafeterias, playground, gym, field trips, etc.)
• Monitor all classroom students’ performance and record relevant data daily to assess progress
• Aid children individually or in small groups in order to help them master and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
• Participate in parent-teacher conferences, as appropriate
• Assist in bus loading and unloading of students from transportation
• Fulfill duties of a Behavior Technician as needed
• Perform other appropriate duties as assigned to meet programmatic needs
