Job Description
The position of Teacher or Classroom Aide at St. John Neumann Catholic School is available starting in the 2026-2027 school year. The role involves supporting full-time teachers with clerical work and classroom activities, assisting with individual student needs, and supervising students during the day.

Examples of Tasks
- Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
- Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and reinforce learning concepts.
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
- Conduct demonstrations to teach such skills as sports, dancing, and handicrafts.
- Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students.
- Grade homework and tests, and compute and record results, using answer sheets or electronic marking devices.
- Organize and label materials, and display students' work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills.
- Maintain computers in classrooms and laboratories, and assist students with hardware and software use.
- Operate and maintain audiovisual equipment.
- Provide disabled students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms.
- Requisition and stock teaching materials and supplies.
- Type, file, and duplicate materials.
- Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
Requirements
- Minimum high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and some on-the-job training.
- Prefer an associate's degree or bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Learning to follow the instructions of a teacher is extremely important.
- Must comply with PA State clearance requirements.
- Must be willing to respect the Catholic Church and follow its basic morality guidelines.
Physical Abilities
- Ability to see at normal distance.
- Hear normal conversations and sounds.
- Physical ability to bend, squat, sit on the floor, skip, run, and climb stairs, as part of daily center activities.
- Able to crouch to a child's height, maintain eye contact at the child's level, sit on the floor, and stand tall enough to reach children on the highest piece of equipment.
- Ability to safely lift or assist children weighing up to 40 pounds in emergencies only.
- Ability to reach a child 30 feet away within 30 seconds without danger to the staff person's health.
- Ability to effectively use hands and fingers to fill out paperwork.
Environmental Conditions
- May be required to work outside.
- Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
