What You'll Do

The Classification Analyst provides an intermediate level of knowledge to the CNS Y-12 Classification Office concerning Unclassified Controlled Nuclear Information (UCNI), Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), Legacy Information, National Security Information, and Restricted Data/Formerly Restricted Data programs. This position requires an ability to understand, implement and manage Federal Regulations, statutes, and DOE orders pertaining to the identification and protection of both classified and controlled unclassified information at the CNS Y-12 National Security Complex (NSC).

The Classification Analyst is expected to make cognizant decisions on information that is being identified and protected in accordance with published classification guidance, DOE Orders and Federal Regulations.

This position requires knowledge in weapons production, weapons material processing or weapon program management. The candidate must have a demonstrated ability to handle issues and concerns directly related to key management systems at the plant level, and capable of assisting in the development of long-term strategies supporting information security and protection operations and classification decisions at the CNS Y-12 NSC.

The candidate must possess an ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels while serving as a spokesperson for the CNS Y-12 Classification Office. Additionally, the candidate will be required to both understand and advise plant personnel on classification-related compliance requirements, including the extent to which noncompliance affects the success or failure of short- and long-term objectives of the overall larger security organization and CNS.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
  • OR Master's degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • OR 12 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education and experience requirement
  • Candidate must be able to complete the DOE Office of Classification General Classification Analyst Course

Preferred Job Requirements

  • DOE certified Derivative Classifier/Reviewing Official (DC/RO)

  • Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
  • This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
  • This position may be categorized as a “designated position” identified by 10 C.F.R. Part 709, requiring successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation that may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
