About the role

PCG is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and dependable Claims Specialist I to support our Stage 1 Child Care Payment Services Program in San Diego, California. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of child care payments to providers while assisting CalWORKs families in accessing essential child care services. The Claims Specialist I is responsible for managing, collecting, tracking, and reporting child care payment and supportive services information through various systems, including KinderTrack and CalSAWS. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process child care provider payments accurately and in compliance with program policies and timelines.
  • Maintain positive relationships with participants, providers, county staff, and partner agencies while delivering professional customer service.
  • Ensure accurate data entry, payment reconciliation, recordkeeping, reporting, and budget file maintenance to support program operations, compliance, and audits.
  • Monitor workloads, meet productivity goals, participate in trainings and team activities, communicate regularly with supervisors, and collaborate with team members and community partners to ensure efficient service delivery and positive client outcomes.
  • Accurately enter provider timesheets, invoices, payment data, and client information into applicable systems.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all program guidelines, policies, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
  • Prior accounting, bookkeeping, payment processing, or related financial experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with social service programs, child care services, or public assistance programs is a plus.
  • Strong initiative and ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing responsibilities, and meet established deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, providers, community partners, and team members.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accuracy in all work products.
  • Strong administrative, technical, and customer service skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, data entry, and database management.
  • Ability to learn new systems, interpret and apply policies and procedures, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skilled in communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Works effectively both independently and collaboratively, provides professional support to diverse populations, handles confidential information with discretion, and remains adaptable while ensuring compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Experience with systems such as CalSAWS and KinderTrack is preferred but not required.

Working Conditions

  • Must reside in San Diego County.
  • This position requires full-time (Mon-Fri) in-office work, from 8am-5pm.
  • PCG does not sponsor newly hired foreign national workers for work authorization, including H-1B sponsorship.

Pay

$19.50 - $23.50 per hour.
