Claims Manager, SDI

About the role

The Claims Manager – SDI will lead a team handling high-exposure Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) claims for major construction contractors. Reporting to the Head of Construction, Environmental Pollution & Energy Claims, this role involves developing and implementing strategies for claim handling and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee coverage, exposure evaluation, reserving, proof of loss reviews, and claim resolution in line with AXA XL’s Global Claims Handling Principles and service standards.
• Manage audits and ensure FIC compliance across the claims team.
• Develop and deliver claim analytics and data insights to Underwriting, Actuarial, and Risk Engineering.
• Collaborate with Underwriting and Risk Engineering on claim issues and trends; capture lessons learned; support policy/endorsement language reviews; and provide data-driven insights to inform underwriting decisions and portfolio strategy.
• Provide superior customer service to policyholders and brokers, maintaining high standards.
• Pursue subrogation opportunities; identify and solve strategic and tactical needs through technology, process improvements, or training.
• Maintain close supervision of vendor management and expense control within the unit.
• Lead and develop the claims team through coaching, performance feedback, and targeted career development.

Requirements

Advanced experience managing and supervising SDI claims; proven negotiation and settlement skills; strong analytical skills with sound judgment; commitment to exceptional customer service; excellent communication and collaboration skills; Bachelor’s degree required; JD preferred.
