Claims Adjuster
About the role
Puget Sound Energy is seeking a Claims Adjuster to join their Legal team. This position involves investigating incidents involving property damages to third parties and resolving claims against PSE. The role requires a strong understanding of the civil justice system, insurance claims adjusting, and the ability to work in high-stress conditions.
Responsibilities
- Reviews various internal and external documents, investigates incidents, evaluates liability, and analyzes damages.
- Travels throughout PSE's service territory for emergency incident responses, meets with stakeholders as needed, and conducts onsite investigations.
- Examines, verifies, and approves invoices for timely payments.
- Excellent time management and organization to adhere to deadlines.
- Performs thorough investigation of incidents involving property damages to PSE facilities as well as all third party property damage claims.
- Establishes contact with third-party claimants, attorneys, and customers to resolve claims against PSE.
- Settlement negotiations on third party claims as well as collection of payments to PSE.
- Represents Puget Sound Energy in Court.
- Testifies on behalf of Puget Sound Energy in Court proceedings.
- May be required to file and effect collection of damage claims as well as defend PSE in small claims court.
- Attends meetings at various locations in Puget Sound Service service territory.
- Provides litigation support to attorneys.
- Enters required damage-claim billing information in cross-functional systems.
- Adheres to strict deadlines.
- Able to work extended hours as needed and participate in a 24/7 emergency on-call rotation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 4-5 plus years experience in utility operations or claims adjusting.
- Familiarity with civil justice system.
- Knowledge of insurance (specifically casualty claims adjusting).
- High level of interpersonal skills (verbal and written), including technical writing.
- Ability to effectively interact with senior management and Union leadership.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-stress conditions and ability to resolve conflict.
- Must be highly motivated, disciplined, and a self-starter.
- Knowledge of tort and civil law.
- Working knowledge of company’s operating tariffs, Washington State statutes and administrative regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS).
- AIC, ARM, or CPCU designation and/or adjuster’s license.
- Construction knowledge including interpretation of restoration estimates.
- Municipality relations including interpretation service agreements.
- Utility knowledge including gas and electric.
- Understanding of the Dig Law.
- Knowledge of PSE’s tariffs.
- Proficient in SAP.

The pay range for this position is $72,700.00 - $103,300.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
