CIVILIAN PAY TECHNICIAN
Positions are located in Indianapolis, IN or Cleveland, OH. This is not a remote work opportunity. Telework is limited and provided only on a rare, case-by-case basis when determined to serve a compelling Department of Defense need.
Duties
- Process a variety of actions that establish, adjust, and close civilian payroll accounts for federal employees under multiple pay plans and employment situations.
- Research employee leave and pay issues, including special pay requests, service computation date changes, overtime advice to supervisors, and debt-letter resolution.
- Manually resolve payroll-system rejects caused by data-transfer failures between systems.
- Determine eligibility for pay and benefits based on appointment type, pay plan, tour of duty, and employment location.
- Perform clerical and technical work to support bi-weekly or monthly pay determinations for civilian employees.
Duties described reflect the full-performance level GS-06. Assignments at the entry grade GS-05 will be developmental.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship.
- Favorable background investigation and suitability determination for federal employment.
- Must obtain and maintain a Financial Management Certification.
- This national-security position may require access to classified information; a favorable security clearance is required. Failure to maintain clearance may result in termination.
- Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service or exempt.
Qualifications
This position is filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense. Applicants must have related financial experience and/or a related financial degree (e.g., Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science).
- GS-05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04, performing duties such as reviewing financial/accounting documents for accuracy, inputting data into automated systems, or correcting invalid transactions.
- GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05, including processing non-routine payroll actions (e.g., establishing, adjusting, closing payroll accounts) or preparing and balancing payroll reports.
This is a developmental position; selections may be made at GS-05 or GS-06. After meeting eligibility and qualification requirements, selectees may be promoted to GS-06 at management discretion without further competition. Volunteer experience (paid or unpaid) may be credited if relevant.
