About the role
As a Senior Substation Civil/Structural Engineer at Rosendin, you will manage all aspects of civil/structural design for HV/MV substation projects. You will collaborate with preconstruction, estimating, and project execution teams to ensure designs meet all applicable codes, standards, and Rosendin expectations.
Responsibilities
- Perform electrical substation civil/structural design, including permitting support, site layout, grading design, main equipment foundations (e.g., circuit breakers, transformers, switches), cable trenches, manholes, cable trays, retaining wall design, stormwater analysis, containment structure design, and survey coordination.
- Provide civil construction support for substation and transmission line projects.
- Review civil construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules.
- Support transmission line right-of-way access improvement design, including culvert sizing, stormwater drainage analysis, stabilization specification, construction support, and inspection.
- Analyze civil elements related to high-voltage power transmission and substation design.
- Partner with clients, vendors, permitting agencies, and stakeholders to ensure project completion.
- Assist with estimating to approximate civil quantities for pricing exercises.
- Develop civil engineering scope of work for pursuits.
- Interface with project management and field supervision teams to provide civil engineering input for potential projects.
- Perform QA/QC reviews of civil engineering drawing packages from contracted firms for solar PV projects.
- Collaborate with project management, field operations, and other engineering disciplines to ensure civil design meets Rosendin standards and constructability requirements.
- Attend project meetings (on-site or remotely).
- Propose alternative engineering methods to achieve cost savings.
- Work directly with civil engineering subcontractors to ensure cost-effective and code-compliant designs.
- Provide civil engineering construction support throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project) and Civil 3D.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while adapting to changing priorities.
- Experience collaborating with other engineering disciplines (electrical, structural, geotechnical).
- Ability to work under time pressure with a positive attitude.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Technical knowledge of design codes and software (Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, stormwater analysis programs).
- Understanding of engineering and design issue evaluation practices.
- Ability to develop and communicate process, structural, or software improvements for the civil group.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- 10+ years of related engineering experience in consulting or electric utility sectors.
- Project management experience.
- Extensive knowledge of managing project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Required experience in civil/structural design for MV to HV electrical substations and/or switchyards, including:
- Site grading and drainage analysis.
- Detention basin design.
- Structural foundation design.
- Retaining wall design.
- Geotechnical analysis.
- Pavement design.
- SPCC and SW3P design.
- Wetland access roads.
- Security fencing.
Schedule
- General work environment: Primarily indoors with varying conditions (e.g., fluorescent lighting, air conditioning).
- Occasional on-site work with potential for loud noise levels.
- Travel up to 30%.
- Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
- Extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, or bending.
