About the Role

Ulteig is seeking a Design Civil/Structural Engineer to support Renewables, Utility, and Power projects within our Substation department. The Design Engineer acts as a discipline engineer or overall project engineer, planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating detailed phases of assigned project work. They will make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications for foundation design, structural steel design, and grading plans, performing calculations using engineering formulas and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Applies current, standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to complete engineering tasks.
  • Develops plans, specifications, and observation reports to ensure completeness, accuracy, and adherence to sound engineering practice.
  • Practices efficiency engineering in design selection and recommends alterations to improve quality.
  • Works closely with engineering technicians and experienced engineers, both in the office and in the field.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, resolving design problems through field investigation or observations.
  • Checks design computations done by others and coordinates specific design aspects of a project.
  • Performs detailed engineering design and evaluations within specialty, devising new approaches and solutions to encountered problems.
  • Prepares reports and correspondence concerning assigned projects.
  • May participate in marketing, sales, and business development activities within assigned markets.
  • Demonstrates creativity and latitude in role execution.
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with clients to meet their needs.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience.
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) registration or obtain within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of electrical utility substation layout and design preferred.
  • Understanding of structural steel, drilled pier, and spread footing design and detailing required; grading design preferred.
  • Experience using MathCAD, STAAD or equivalent, foundation design programs, and/or other structural modeling software preferred.
  • Knowledge of AISC and ACI required; ASCE and NESC preferred.
  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation preferred.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Up to 15% travel required.
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.

Pay

Target base compensation range for this role is $91,000 - $112,500. Factors that may determine actual salary include job-specific skills, education, training, job location, years of experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
