Civil Project Engineer

About the role

Huitt-Zollars, Inc. has a full-time opportunity for a Civil Project Engineer (Eng V) with 5-10 years of experience and a registered Professional Engineer (PE License) for our Houston West office and Public Works Practice.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Civil Engineer in the development of design schematics, construction plans, specifications and estimates.
• Coverage of duties includes coordination with EITs, designers and drafters, review of shop drawings, field observations, and facilitation of construction administration.
• Support project proposals, scopes, budgets, and manage execution and tracking of projects.
• Complete projects within client specifications, budgets and schedules.
• Coordinate online meetings, preparation of meeting agendas, and distribution of meeting.
• Work on all types of projects, focusing on Public Works projects including site development aspects like grading, floodplain mitigation, drainage, paving, and utilities.
• Coordinate with other disciplines within HZI and sub-consultants including Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, etc.
• Prepare and follow comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and ensure proper staff utilization on projects.
• Review project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget.
• Lead successful projects ensuring profit, on-schedule, quality, and satisfied client.
• Contribute to successful delivery and performance of projects.
• Cultivate relationships with clients and maintain strong client relationships.
• Follow Huitt-Zollars' business processes including weekly rhythm.
• Pursue new business opportunities and assist in achieving office sales goals.
• Understand and enforce Huitt-Zollars' Quality Management System (QMS).
• Maintain quality control measures on projects and daily operations.
• Engage and participate in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff.
• Understand job duties, possess necessary job knowledge and technical skills, and maintain job knowledge current.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
• 5+ years of civil engineering design experience in Public Works.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Excel and Word software.
• Ability to work independently in a team environment and manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, clear presentation of engineering information, ability to write clearly for technical issues and design ideas.
• Ability to design printed and digital engineering documents.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times. The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities.
