Responsibilities

  • Provide legal representation for victims and their families in wrongful death and elder abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, and other forms of mistreatment for all phases of litigation and through trial.
  • Manage a caseload of elder abuse cases, from pre-litigation through trial, conducting thorough investigations, executing an organized discovery and trial plan, gathering evidence, and collaborating with health care providers, consultants, and experts while also implementing a strong settlement strategy parallel to working up cases for trial.
  • Experience with creating a discovery plan, executing on discovery, diligent meet and confer follow-up, and filing of discovery motions, taking and defending all types of witness depositions, experience with ESI discovery, and use of e-Discovery platforms.
  • Advocate for the rights of victims and families in wrongful death and elder neglect, and abuse cases.
  • Maintain regular communication and rapport with clients, keeping them informed about the progress of their cases, explaining legal processes, understanding their harms and losses to develop their damages work-up, and addressing their concerns.
  • Collaborate with our team, public agencies, medical professionals, and other relevant parties to build a strong case work-up.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and precedents related to elder abuse, and apply procedural and substantive legal knowledge to build effective cases.
  • Embrace teamwork, provide support to others within the firm in a team environment, with a demonstrated willingness to contribute and collaborate with team members to achieve best-case results for all of our clients.
  • Align with a culture that measures time-on-desk to improve workflow and deliver case closure to clients in an efficient, yet high-quality manner.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and a four-year college degree.
  • Admission to the California state bar and in good standing for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Minimum 5 years of civil litigation experience in California state and federal courts.
  • Previous experience in business litigation or medical malpractice preferred.
  • Minimum 1 jury trial as first chair, experience with binding arbitration hearings, law and motion hearings, and second-chair trial experience.
  • Experience taking and defending depositions of all types of witnesses (lay, professional, and expert).
  • Strong law and motion experience with strong writing skills.
  • Experienced in handling complex legal issues and cases, welcomes the challenge and thrives on simplifying the complex.
  • Empathy and sensitivity to the needs of elderly clients and their families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Commitment to ethical and professional standards.
