Civil Engineer Intern

About the role

APTIM is seeking an energetic and motivated Civil Engineering Intern to support civil engineering teams in planning, design, analysis, and construction support of infrastructure and site development projects. This 12-week internship (May 18, 2026 – August 7, 2026) provides hands-on experience working alongside licensed engineers on real-world projects while developing technical, analytical, and professional skills. Interns will be paired with experienced staff for task-specific training and mentorship in environmental assessment, remediation, and infrastructure.

This is a temporary position requiring full availability during Week 1 (May 18–22) and Week 12 (August 3–7). The program observes Memorial Day (May 25, 2026) and Independence Day (July 3, 2026, observed).

Responsibilities

• Learn applicable regulatory rules, guidance, and company policies/procedures.
• Work on straightforward tasks using established procedures; all work subject to review by experienced staff.
• Collaborate with engineering staff to interpret data, conduct analyses, and perform calculations/modeling using appropriate software.
• Assist in implementing remedial actions designed by professional engineering staff.
• Support preparation of civil engineering designs, calculations, and technical documents.
• Assist with site development, grading, drainage, utilities, and roadway design tasks.
• Conduct data collection, field observations, and site inspections as needed.
• Prepare and revise drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D).
• Perform basic engineering calculations and quantity take-offs.
• Assist with reports, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with project team members to support schedules and deliverables.
• Review plans/documents for accuracy and compliance with applicable codes/standards.
• Maintain organized project files and documentation.
• Follow company safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Currently attending an accredited educational institution pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
• Preference for candidates who have completed their Junior year with expected graduation in 2026.
• Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills.
• Self-starter with strong time management skills; ability to work well under pressure.
• Available to work in office, remote, or field settings depending on project needs.
• Ability to complete 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and wear proper personal protective equipment for hazardous waste sites.
• Must be able to perform lifting and physical work.
• At least 18 years of age with a clean driving record.
• U.S. citizenship required for access to Federal Government sites.
• Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA with at least 60 hours of coursework completed.

Pay

Current pay range for this position is $25–$29 per hour, depending on experience, education, key skills, geographic location, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity.
