Civil Engineer

Individuals in this position plan, design, and manage projects for the organization. These projects include land development (retail, healthcare, industrial, commercial, educational, institutional, municipal), utility distribution (storm, sanitary, watermain, electrical ductbank, thermal utilities), and municipal design and inspection.

Responsibilities

• Discuss requirements with the client and other professionals
• Analyze survey, mapping, and materials-testing data with computer modeling software
• Draw up plans using CAD packages, primarily Civil 3D
• Consider construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental hazards, and other factors in planning stages and risk analysis
• Make judgments on project feasibility by assessing materials, costs, and time requirements
• Assess the environmental impact and risks connected to projects
• Prepare bid documents for clients
• Manage, direct, and monitor progress during each phase of a project
• Ensure sites meet legal guidelines and health and safety requirements
• Present findings to the public on topics such as bid proposals, environmental impact statements, or property descriptions
• Manage the repair, maintenance, and replacement of public and private infrastructure
• Set up modeling files for projects and create design drawings

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Current Wisconsin Engineer credential or ability to obtain within 2 years
• 2–10 years of experience working in the Civil Engineering industry
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Proficient in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, StormCAD, HydroCAD, WinSLAMM
• Proficient with Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Acrobat, Blue Beam

Physical Demands

• While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit, stand, and walk, use hands and fingers
• Occasionally must reach above and below shoulder level, and lift/push/pull and/or carry up to 25 pounds
• Must be able to operate a motor vehicle

Working Conditions

Engineers generally work in offices. However, many spend time outdoors at construction sites to monitor operations or solve problems onsite.
