About the role

The Civil Designer is responsible for designing civil engineering projects, including site design, land development, roads, storm drainage systems, storm water management facilities, water and sanitary sewer utility design, sediment and erosion control, traffic control, airports, and facility design.

Responsibilities

  • Design civil engineering projects such as site design, land development, roads, storm drainage systems, storm water management facilities, water and sanitary sewer utility design, sediment and erosion control, traffic control, airports, and facility design.
  • Develop drawings for production work, including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations on non-routine assignments.
  • Execute a variety of civil design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing system components, and refining rough sketches.
  • Make changes to designs or sketches and mark-ups on ongoing projects.
  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects.
  • Incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Report volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and upland site grading.
  • Integrate schedules, budgets, and project criteria into civil design and layouts.
  • Revise project drawings, plot files, and store project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or a related field with 3 years of related experience, or an Associate degree with 5 years of related experience, or 9 years of progressive detailing and design experience.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Civil engineering and Civil 3D.
  • Expertise in site development, drafting, AutoCAD, and Civil design.
  • Understanding of design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Excel.
  • Expert knowledge in design, calculations, and design systems.
  • Expert knowledge in the theory and practices of civil discipline.
  • Competence in fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to civil design.
  • Capability of operating related discipline design software necessary for production tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-discipline project team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.

Work Environment

The work environment involves collaborating with project managers, engineers, and designers within a multi-discipline project team. The job requires proficiency in design software and working under standard office conditions. The role demands strong communication and problem-solving skills to resolve design or drawing issues and to accomplish project objectives.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
