About the role

Turner Industries Group is seeking an experienced Civil Carpenter for a position in Old Ocean, TX. Must be local to the area; no per diem is available. The role requires availability for call outs and overtime with limited notice.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, sketches, or structural plans to determine material requirements and dimensions.
• Select specified types of lumber or other materials; prepare layouts including lines and grades.
• Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials; shape materials to prescribed measurements.
• Assemble cut and shaped materials and fasten them together; erect framework for structures and lay sub-flooring.
• Build stairs, lay out and install partitions and cabinet work.
• Cover sub-floor with building paper to prevent moisture and lay hardwood, parquet, and wood-strip-block floors.
• Fit and install prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware (e.g., locks, letter drops, kick plates).
• Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete; erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures at various elevations.
• Fabricate materials, load, haul, and carry them to the job site, and install per drawings, sketches, or plans.
• Place and finish concrete in formwork; set and align form panels; set grout forms for epoxy and cement grout.

Requirements

• One (1) to four (4) years of experience in the specified skill (depending on mechanic level).
• Must pass a written pre-employment qualification test.
• Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation.
• Hazard Communication orientation/test.
• Compliance with job site safety requirements as required by the client (e.g., clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots).
• Use of safety equipment as required by the client (e.g., hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard).
• Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves or others in the workplace.
• Previous experience working with concrete is a plus.
• NCCER Certified Plus preferred.

Physical Involvement

• Climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc., above and below ground level.
• Maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, and structures.
• Reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating objects and materials.
• Coordinating movements of eyes, hands, and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
• Lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead.
• Carrying objects, tools, and equipment.
• Standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching/squatting, and crawling.
• Seeing and hearing with or without correction.

Mental Involvement

• Following set procedures and standards; adhering to oral/written directions.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and company standards and regulations.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret written plans and blueprints.
• Applying basic mathematical skills; planning work and selecting proper tools.

Work Environment

• Location: Industrial maintenance and construction sites.
• Mobility barriers: Uneven ground level, obstructed pathways, work at low and/or high elevations, confined areas.
• Climatic/environmental conditions: Predominately outdoor work; exposure to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc.
• Noise levels: Various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, and equipment.
• Potential exposure to chemical substances.
