About the role
Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction. Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher. Assist teacher in maintaining discipline. Assist teacher with instructional activities. Escort students from room to room. Toileting students is sometimes required. Involve work with both special education and regular students. Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP. Supervise students while they are at recess and lunch. Assist students with classroom assignments. Copy materials for instructional purposes. Assist teacher in filing material and preparing all necessary paperwork. Alert teachers to problems that may be observed.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
- Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree; OR successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment which assesses content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment).
Physical Demands
- Sit, talk or hear.
- Stand, walk, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Push items of fifty (50) pounds, such as pushing children on a bike or wheelchair or moving/rearranging furniture.
- Lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
- When doing heavier lifting, the employee should do so with assistance.
Salary
Reward range $22.12 - $25.18 (Per contractual agreement BPS Contracts)
Work Hours
6 hours per day 8:45 AM to 3:45 PM
