About the role
The City of Barre, Vermont (pop. 8,500) is recruiting for an experienced public sector manager to serve as its next City Manager. Barre (pronounced Berry) is a full service, densely populated, resurgent community in Central Vermont.
Responsibilities
- Lead the City's strategic planning and implementation of policies and initiatives.
- Manage the City's budget and financial operations, ensuring fiscal responsibility and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the City, including public safety, public works, and community services.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders, including residents, businesses, and non-profit organizations.
- Represent the City in local, state, and national forums, advocating for its interests and promoting its image.
- Ensure the City's compliance with legal requirements and ordinances, and oversee the City's legal department.
Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive management experience in local government or a related field.
- A bachelor's degree in public administration, urban planning, or a related field.
- Experience leading large-scale projects and managing teams.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to inspire confidence and motivate staff.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations applicable to local government.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in public administration or a related field preferred.
- Experience in economic development and community revitalization.
- Experience with technology and digital transformation in local government.
- Experience with grant writing and securing funding for local government projects.
