About the Role
Provides policy, outreach, and communications support on behalf of the City Manager's Office for a Dallas City Council member in their role as the district representative and Council member. This position serves as a professional liaison between the public, council, and the City Manager's Office.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a liaison between the general public, council, and the City Manager's Office; assists residents navigating city services and builds working relationships between council and constituents.
- Assists, supports, and coordinates the council member's agenda, schedule, and logistics; fosters and implements new ideas, policies, or initiatives.
- Develops and analyzes policies and legislation; prepares summaries, conducts research, and identifies supporting data and metrics for the Councilmember.
- Communicates and briefs the Councilmember on community and media issues relating to the district; ensures the Councilmember is knowledgeable about all committee meeting agendas, council briefings, and council agendas.
- Prepares, drafts, and edits speeches, communications, and talking points; proofreads and prepares informational materials as needed.
- Attends community meetings and ceremonial functions to make presentations on behalf of the Councilmember; reviews, evaluates, and interprets written correspondence.
- Oversees the application and submission process for the Councilmember's board and commission nominations.
- Aids and supports various constituent services as needed.
- Performs any other work as assigned.
Requirements
- 4 years of experience in a municipal setting, preferably with experience working with council.
- Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or Government.
Skills
- Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Knowledge of public administration and council logistics.
- Ability to use office machines (copier, fax machine).
- Ability to coordinate meetings, travel, and detailed schedules.
- Ability to write clear and accurate reports.
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and other city employees.
- Ability to handle difficult and unusual situations.
- Exceptional customer service and ability to interact successfully with constituents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships.
Pay
Salary range: $62,379.20 - $76,585.60. The amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
