About the role
Determines and authors the official record of every action in a court of general jurisdiction through the recording of minutes, maintaining custody of all notices and documents presented in court, receiving and processing of all exhibits, and directing courtroom procedures of hearings and trials involving simple and/or uncontested cases or where judges use expedited orders.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and processes legal forms and documents in court proceedings.
- Directs courtroom procedures of hearings and trials involving simple and/or uncontested cases or where judges use expedited orders.
- Maintains custody of all notices and documents presented in court.
- Receives and processes all exhibits.
- Takes notes during court proceedings.
Requirements
- Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Specialized Experience: One (1) year of work experience in a court or legal setting, which included the preparation and/or processing of legal forms and documents in court proceedings.
- Note taking ability demonstrated through training and/or experience.
- Proficiency in typing at a rate of 40 net words per minute.
Qualifications
- Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Education at an accredited college or university in a paralegal, legal studies, law program, or a closely related field may be substituted on the basis of fifteen (15) semester credits for six (6) months of Specialized Experience up to a maximum of one (1) year.
- Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Political Science, or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.
