About the role

Determines and authors the official record of every action in a court of general jurisdiction through the recording of minutes, maintaining custody of all notices and documents presented in court, receiving and processing of all exhibits, and directing courtroom procedures of hearings and trials involving simple and/or uncontested cases or where judges use expedited orders.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and processes legal forms and documents in court proceedings.
  • Authors and maintains the official record of court actions.
  • Maintains custody of all notices and documents presented in court.
  • Processes all exhibits received in court.
  • Directs courtroom procedures for hearings and trials involving simple and/or uncontested cases or expedited orders.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Specialized Experience: One (1) year of work experience in a court or legal setting, which included the preparation and/or processing of legal forms and documents in court proceedings.
  • Note taking ability demonstrated through training and/or experience.
  • Proficiency in typing at a rate of 40 net words per minute.
  • Qualification for firearms (Lautenberg): No misdemeanor or felony domestic violence conviction.

Qualifications

  • Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Up to one (1) year of Specialized Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Fifteen (15) semester credits for six (6) months of Specialized Experience may be substituted for education.
  • Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Political Science, or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.
