About the role

Determines and authors the official record of every action in a court of general jurisdiction through the recording of minutes, maintaining custody of all notices and documents presented in court, receiving and processing of all exhibits, and directing courtroom procedures of hearings and trials involving complex, contested cases.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and processes legal forms and documents in court proceedings.
  • Maintains custody of all notices and documents presented in court.

  • Directs courtroom procedures of hearings and trials involving complex, contested cases.
  • Authors the official permanent record of court proceedings.
  • Documents significant contents and outcomes of courtroom proceedings.
  • Performs courtroom duties including managing exhibits and ensuring proper courtroom procedures.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of work experience in a court or legal setting, which included the preparation and/or processing of legal forms and documents in court proceedings.
  • Six (6) months of work performed in a courtroom setting with the responsibility of authoring the official permanent record of court proceedings, or experience as a litigation attorney or paralegal with responsibility for documenting significant contents and outcomes of courtroom proceedings.
  • At least six (6) months of the Courtroom Experience must have been comparable to that performed by a Circuit Court Clerk I or District Court Clerk II.
  • The ability to type at a rate of 40 net words per minute.

Qualifications

  • Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Specialized Experience: One (1) year of work experience in a court or legal setting, which included the preparation and/or processing of legal forms and documents in court proceedings.
  • Specialized Experience: Six (6) months of work performed in a courtroom setting with the responsibility of authoring the official permanent record of court proceedings, or experience as a litigation attorney or paralegal with responsibility for documenting significant contents and outcomes of courtroom proceedings.
  • Specialized Experience: Education at an accredited college or university in a paralegal, legal studies, law program, or a closely related field may be substituted on the basis of fifteen (15) semester credits for six (6) months of Specialized Experience up to a maximum of one (1) year.
  • Specialized Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Political Science, or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.
