About the role
The Children's Librarian, Grade 23 position at the Headquarters Library is available starting March 1, 2026. The salary is $43,888 per year, including a generous benefits package. Hours are 40 per week, with specific shifts noted.
Responsibilities
- Plans, presents, and promotes creative and innovative programs that meet the needs of children
- Stays informed of the needs and interests of families and children through library patron interactions and reading of current journals, websites, and literature
- Incorporates The Basics Palmetto and Every Child Ready to Read concepts into programs and the environment for children ages 0-5
- Affixes to summer reading planning for children, birth through age twelve, for the library system
- Supports the work of the Children's Department director, assisting with special projects as needed
- Affixes to planning of school visits and field trip requests
- Tracks and submits program statistics
- Participates in maintaining an attractive department including maintaining and promoting collections, displays, and signage
- Provides superior customer service with information requests, reader’s advisory questions, computers, digital devices, and other library equipment
- Remains aware of safety and security issues and takes appropriate action as needed; roves the library to maintain awareness of patron needs and security
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited ALA library school and knowledge of Children’s Services in a public library
- Essential knowledge of professional library principles, procedures, materials, and practices with public library experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of children’s literature
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with technology
- Ability to establish deadlines, monitor progress, and work well with a team
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
Qualifications

All other weekdays 8:30 AM-5:30 PM (Note: Must be flexible to accommodate schedule changes may be asked to work other times)
