Childcare Attendant/Substitute Childcare Attendant-Classroom (SY 26-27)

About the role

Under immediate supervision, you will provide personal care to children with physical disabilities during the school year.

Responsibilities

• Assist in toileting children with physical disabilities; diaper students and lift them to and from the diapering table.
• Clean and disinfect equipment and areas used by children with physical disabilities.
• Help feed children with physical disabilities during lunch by carrying trays and feeding children by hand if necessary.
• Help students into coats, boots, and other wearing apparel and assist in the removal of such apparel.
• Assist mainstreamed students with physical needs or adaptive supports in classes such as Economics, Industrial Arts, Music, Art, and adaptive Physical Education.
• Supervise students during indoor and outdoor recreation periods.
• If hired on a calendar-year basis, wash walls, windows, furniture, lockers, and woodwork; clean kitchen area and kitchen appliances when school is not in session.
• After training by Columbus Public Schools medical personnel, perform catheterizations and change Bricker bags of students.
• After training by physical and/or occupational therapists, adjust prone boards and position students on and remove them from prone boards.
• Assist students in the orthopedic handicap resource classroom; lift students in and out of wheelchairs and bus seats.
• Assist students on and off buses; push wheelchairs onto and off bus lifts and hold onto the chair while operating the lift.
• Fasten students into seat belts and wheelchair fasteners on board the bus; monitor students and attend to their needs while on the school bus.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Possession of a Student Monitor Permit from the State of Ohio Department of Education must be attained during the pre-employment process and maintained throughout employment.

Pay

$23.37 hourly.

Schedule

This is not a remote position. Substitute Childcare Attendant roles are temporary, as-needed positions and are not eligible for benefits. Substitute positions may provide an opportunity to be considered for a permanent position when vacancies become available; however, employment as a substitute does not guarantee permanent employment.
