CHILD & YOUTH PROGRAM TECHNICIAN I/II
About the role
The Clark County Department of Juvenile Justice Services is seeking qualified candidates for the Child & Youth Program Technician I/II position. This role performs technical and paraprofessional support duties in detention booking, including processing juveniles entering the facility, completing intake and release procedures, verifying documentation, collecting identifying information, conducting property inventories, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with department policies and legal requirements.

Pay
Child & Youth Program Technician I: $22.93 - $33.85 hourly
Child & Youth Program Technician II: $24.79 - $36.58 hourly
The Child & Youth Program Technician I is a training underfill position; upon successful completion of the training program, the candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Child & Youth Program Technician II.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Child and Youth Program Technician I: Equivalent to an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Child Development, Psychology, Social Work, Education, related behavioral science, or a degree related to the work. Professional experience and/or education that provides the necessary skills may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- Child and Youth Program Technician II: In addition to the above, a minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience performing technical or paraprofessional juvenile program duties.

Working Conditions
- Work evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations.
- Work with exposure to infectious or contagious diseases.
- Work with hostile, abusive, and emotionally disturbed juveniles.
Licensing and Certification
- Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.
- Specified positions may require program-specific certifications after hire.
- Must possess or obtain first aid and CPR certifications.
Background and Medical
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation, which may be conducted periodically after employment.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships.
- Employment is contingent upon the results of a medical examination and pre-employment drug testing.
Responsibilities
- Performs technical and paraprofessional services for juvenile detention, delinquency, and related juvenile justice programs under professional supervision.
- Processes bookings, maintains order and discipline in the booking area, and ensures sight and sound supervision at all times.
- Contacts families, law enforcement, and social agencies; assesses juveniles for physical or mental impairment, intoxication, or drug influence, and arranges for triage or treatment if needed.
- Confirms active warrants and serves warrants on youth as needed.
- Provides supervision and crisis intervention for children and youth.
- Interviews children, youth, and parents to obtain pertinent information; verifies information with schools, employers, and others; completes forms, documents, and reports.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with community agencies.
- Verifies probation status, searches juveniles, secures evidence, and reports violations to professional staff.
- Answers telephone calls, provides information, interviews callers, documents notes, and makes referrals.
- Assesses juveniles' safety and conducts eligibility assessments for program participation.
- Identifies community resources and support programs; assists with developing individual service strategies.
- Maintains records, case files, reports, statements, and correspondence.
- Contributes to team efficiency and effectiveness by offering suggestions and participating actively.
- Performs office and administrative duties, including operating standard office equipment.
- Drives a County motor vehicle to transport juveniles.
Physical Demands
- Mobility to work in court, detention, or office settings, including standing or walking for extended periods.
- Strength to lift materials weighing up to fifty pounds and restrain violent or aggressive juveniles.
- Vision to use standard office equipment and read printed materials, including computer screens.
- Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
- Use of standard office equipment and driving a motor vehicle to transport children.
- Strength to lift, carry, and restrain children.
