About the role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct examinations to evaluate applicants' qualifications for the position.
  • Investigate, conduct oral examinations, and rate applications based on various criteria.
  • Must attain a minimum score of 70% on each phase of the examination process.

Requirements

  • Level I: Must be licensed by the California State Bar.
  • Level II: Must have one year of experience in the practice of law.
  • Level III: Must have two years of experience as a practicing attorney in family and/or civil law.
  • Level IV: Must have three years of experience as a practicing attorney in family and/or civil law.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the principals of law, trial procedure, and their application, including California Welfare and Institutions Code, Family Code, Civil Code, Code of Civil Procedure, Probate Code, Evidence Code, and Rules of Court.
  • Ability to present statements of fact, law, and argument clearly and logically.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications.

Pay

  • Salary Levels I-IV: $3,046.12 - $5,994.54, paid bi-weekly.
  • Recruitment Bonus: $15,000 non-pensionable recruitment bonus for employees hired on or after April 22, 2023.

  • Regular office hours apply.

Additional Information

  • A background check may be conducted for this classification.
  • Appointees are subject to fingerprinting for the purpose of a criminal records check.
  • Post-offer medical and drug screening tests may be required at County expense.
  • Eligible list remains active for 12 months unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
  • This recruitment is eligible for the Employee Referral Award Program.
