CHILD CARE WORKER

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED certificate, etc.); CDA preferred
  • Working knowledge of the language(s), traditions, relationships, and customs of the Alamo Navajo Community
  • Able to demonstrate appropriate professional interpersonal interactions with colleagues, supervisor, other division staff, students, parents, and community members
  • Fluent Navajo and English speakers with ability to translate and communicate with both children and adults
  • Ability to determine which problems and situations need to be referred to a higher level
  • Evidence of prior work experience required
  • Must have current employee health screening (medical and immunization history) and maintain certificates in CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers permit within the first six (6) months of employment
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate and read at an 8.0 average grade level as documented by an overall Language Arts score on the TABE test or equivalent testing instrument (unless possessing a Master's degree or above). Employees not meeting this level must enroll in the workplace literacy program to achieve this competency within three (3) years

Preferential consideration for employment will be given to persons of documented Navajo, American Indian, or Alaskan Native Tribal membership who meet the qualifications above.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and efficiently carries out responsibilities in accordance with Alamo Navajo School Board Inc. and Wellness Center Policies and Procedures
  • Ensures the health and safety of children in their care; ensures that interactions between children in child care are healthy, non-violent, and appropriate
  • Provides an age-appropriate supportive play and learning environment; engages children in games and activities as appropriate to promote a supportive environment
  • Maintains a high personal standard of professional and ethical conduct
  • Inspects daily all toys and equipment for any needed repairs and reports to supervisor any potential safety hazards for children in their care
  • Completes an incident report in writing to the Wellness Center Director as soon as possible after any injury or event that affects the child care area
  • Maintains the confidentiality of issues relating to parents and children in their care

Special Conditions

  • This position is subject by law to fingerprinting and a criminal/character background investigation
  • Alamo Navajo Health Center documents and content are privileged and confidential information, including patient information protected by federal and state privacy laws

Pay

Grade D on the ANSB General Salary Scale, Grade E with CDA

Schedule

25-30 hrs/wk (Monday – Friday), flexible scheduling
