Job Summary

Supervise children (ages 1 - 5+) at all times, maintaining a secure, safe environment for children to play and learn in.

Organize Child snack distribution and clean up
Watch for signs of emotional stress and contact the parent via text if necessary
Communicate effectively with students and parents
Change diapers/toilet train children where necessary
Participate in dismissal procedures at the end of after care, ensuring that each child leaves with the appropriate adult (i.e., an authorized adult)
Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
Support and adhere to the policies and procedures of the parish and Archdiocese of San Antonio.
Maintain confidentiality
Demonstrate professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
Maintain a stimulating and varied schedule of activities appropriate for the students in a well-ordered environment
Clean and disinfect items used prior to the end of the shift.

Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Director
Have copy of medical and emergency records and first aid kit on hand daily
Ensure that during the hours of operation there is at least one staff member trained in CPR/First Aid

Working Conditions

  • Required to work some nights and weekends
  • Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
  • Required to work in standard nursery conditions

Mental/Physical Demands

  • Required to lift or carry supplies and students (up to 30 lbs.)
  • Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks
  • Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise and activity
  • Be able to adapt to continuously changing, fast-paced environment and make the children’s needs the primary focus.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • CDA credential preferred
  • Experience: At least 18 years old
  • One (1) year of experience in a childcare setting
  • Other Requirements: Excellent communication skills
  • Be a team player
  • Have reliable transportation
  • CPR and First Aid certification (can be obtained during job training)
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
