About the role
The Specialist, Child Care position at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) Mequon campus is a part-time, academic year position running from mid-August through mid-May. This role involves overseeing childcare activities, planning age-appropriate activities, interacting with children, maintaining supplies, and supporting children's development.
Responsibilities
- Monitors childcare room activities and provides age-appropriate assistance to children.
- Prepares and implements developmentally appropriate activities that support early childhood development.
- Supports children's success in completing tasks through support, attention, and encouragement.
- Maintains order in childcare rooms and ensures adequate supplies are available.
- Tracks and assesses children's development using child portfolios and parent conferences.
- Assists with outreach efforts by sharing information about the Children’s Center services.
Requirements
- Compliance with state and federal standards and accreditation requirements.
- Absolutely no gaps in employment history.
- At least 18 years old.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification within six months of hire.
- Abusive Head Trauma/Shaken Baby Prevention Certificate and Mandated Reporter Training Certificate completed prior to hire or at orientation.
- Knowledge of child development stages and best practices in childcare.
- Working knowledge of health and safety standards in childcare centers.
- Ability to detect and prevent potential injuries or deaths.
- Effective discipline and room management skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in computer applications relevant to the position.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or 60 college credits in a related field with at least 6 credits in Early Childhood Education.
- One to three years of progressive experience within a childcare setting.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, additional coursework in infant/toddler development, and more than three years of experience in childcare.
