Responsibilities
- Acts in a professional, respectful, courteous, and caring manner at all times.
- Creates a customer-focused climate and provides quality services and support to school and other stakeholders.
- Complies with applicable district, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Supervises daily operations, program activities, and staff activities; oversees provision of supervised care, monitoring of children’s activities, and provision of a safe, nurturing environment for children enrolled in the School Age Child Care Program before school, after school, during summer vacation, or at other scheduled times.
- Ensures departmental compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors areas occupied by children and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of students, employees, and other individuals; removes any hazards from child care environment; ensures proper disposal of biohazardous materials; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
- Plans, coordinates, conducts, and/or participates in various indoor/outdoor activities for children appropriate to each age group.
- Provides care and activities for students needing special accommodations with appropriate adaptations.
- Communicates through the proper channels to keep supervisor and other appropriate personnel informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature.
- Responds to emergency situations; provides first aid or basic medical care to ill/injured children; determines need to call emergency personnel; dispenses required medication as directed and completes medication logs; notifies parents and supervisor of injuries/illnesses; completes accident reports as required.
- Makes on the spot decisions regarding the safety and well-being of children enrolled in the School Age Child Care Program.
- Communicates and disseminates essential information to staff members, parents, and children; prepares and distributes parent newsletter.
- Counsels and trains new personnel to program’s philosophy and provides leadership; ensures compliance with State Department of Education standards for inservice training; maintains records of current CPR and First Aid certifications for staff members.
- Processes various documentation associated with child care activities; maintains accounts of parents enrolled in the program; collects fees and issues receipts for child care services; reconciles bank deposits.
- Maintains inventory levels of supplies and food items and initiates requests for new/replacement items; plans snack menu; may purchase supplies; forward receipts to Child Care Office.
- Oversees resolution of behavioral management issues; ensures disciplinary issues are handled in a fair, equal, and respectful manner; responds to situations involving disruptive behavior, excessive noise, fighting, or other problems; mediates disputes between individuals/groups; administers discipline in accordance with established procedures; reports problems and prepares behavior reports or incident reports as appropriate.
- Follow established procedures to ensure assigned areas are safe.
- Works collaboratively with all stakeholders.
- Attends work and arrives to work on time.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Travels to other school locations as directed by area supervisors based on staffing needs and efficient operation of Child Care Program.
- Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law and the Code of Professional Conduct Board Policy.
- Uses computers and other technology to enter and access information related to essential job functions.
- Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks.
- Provides assistance to other employees and site locations as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- College level coursework or vocational training in early education, child psychology, business administration, or related fields preferred.
- One year of experience in child care or early childhood education; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR and First Aid Certification.

- Ability to develop and maintain a positive relationship with supervisors, principal, employees, children, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to use approved disciplinary strategies when a child’s (or children’s) behavior is not appropriate.
- Ability to assess a situation and use good judgment to resolve situations.
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
Compensation
