Chief Psychiatrist, CRS (Safety) - California State Prison, Corcoran (COR)

Duty Statement

The Chief Psychiatrist develops, oversees, and directs the quality and operations of Physician Services within psychiatry for the psychiatric treatment of individuals housed at Corcoran State Prison.

About the Role

This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and collaborates closely with the Statewide Chief Psychiatrist. The incumbent will lead a team of psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals to ensure the provision of comprehensive and effective mental health services to inmates.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements policies and procedures for psychiatric services.
• Oversees the clinical management of psychiatric patients, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices.
• Collaborates with other healthcare providers to coordinate care plans and ensure continuity of care.
• Provides consultation and training to staff regarding mental health issues and treatment strategies.
• Maintains compliance with state and federal regulations regarding mental health care.
• Participates in the development and implementation of new programs and initiatives aimed at improving mental health outcomes.

Requirements

• A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
• A current California Medical License.
• At least ten years of experience in psychiatry, with at least five years in a leadership capacity.
• Experience in correctional settings preferred.
• Knowledge of correctional health care systems and protocols.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Completion of a residency program in psychiatry.
• Board certification in Psychiatry.
• Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
• Knowledge of substance abuse disorders and treatment options.

Pay

$34,420 per year, subject to the hiring above minimum authorization.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, with some evening and weekend shifts as needed.
