Chief Product Officer (CPO)
About the Role
Allia Health Group (AHG) is building a vertically integrated digital health platform connecting compounding pharmacy, women's and men's telehealth, a provider-facing electronic health record, and an AI-and-data infrastructure layer into a single, coordinated patient experience. This is AHG's first dedicated product executive role, tasked with defining and leading the product strategy to unify strong businesses into one connected, durable healthcare system.
The Chief Product Officer (CPO) will build and lead the product discipline across the company, covering consumer direct-to-consumer subscription products, a provider-facing EHR, a clinical layer for the pharmacy, and the shared patient platform. The role operates with a clear division of decision rights: the CTO owns supply (architecture, engineering, data infrastructure, security, reliability, and delivery), while the CPO owns demand (user problems, product strategy, roadmap prioritization, discovery, and outcomes). The CPO and CTO are peers, reporting directly to the CEO.
AI is central to this role. The CPO will partner with the CTO, who is investing in AHG's AI and data platform, to determine which AI capabilities become real products for patients and clinicians, ensuring they are designed to earn trust and are woven into the product organization's workflows.
How the Role Works
- Direct ownership: The shared cross-brand patient platform, the provider-network EHR product, the company's product discovery/design/research/analytics disciplines, and the product talent function.
- Partnership ownership: Business-unit roadmaps are set in close collaboration with each BU's leadership. The CPO brings product rigor, evidence, and prioritization to these conversations and serves as the escalation point for product and UX issues.
- Influence over authority: Success is driven by being the most trusted voice on what's worth building, earned through evidence, outcomes, and partnership.
- CTO ownership (not this role): Data warehouse, business intelligence, cloud/platform architecture, security, SOC 2, ERP, infrastructure vendors, engineering delivery, and the AI/ML platform. The CPO sets demand for these systems, while the CTO owns their implementation.
Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Portfolio Prioritization
- Own a product strategy for each business and the portfolio, distinct from the technology roadmap, outlining user problems, hypotheses, outcomes, and deliberate exclusions.
- Prioritize across the portfolio based on value, not bandwidth or volume of requests.
- Champion a "connected system over isolated products" approach, ensuring a unified patient identity and experience across brands.
Product Discovery & Evidence
- Install product discovery as a standard, including continuous customer/provider interviews, prototype/usability testing, and validated problem definition before build.
- Require major initiatives to include discovery artifacts (interview findings, hypotheses, success metrics) to drive prioritization.
Design, User Research & Quality
- Build product design, user research, and design-system disciplines, including accessibility standards and consistent quality across brands and the EHR.
- Be the executive accountable for usability by patients, providers, and pharmacists, advocating for users amid speed and shipping pressures.
Outcomes & Product Analytics
- Own outcome metrics (e.g., subscription retention, provider activation, medication adherence, NPS) rather than output metrics.
- Stand up product analytics as a discipline, including event-level instrumentation, cohort/funnel analysis, and experimentation.
Healthcare Product Leadership
- EHR/Provider Experience: Map and prototype provider workflows before production; own the provider activation funnel.
- Clinical AI as Product: Set strategy for AI features (e.g., ambient documentation/scribing) and decide what ships to users, ensuring readiness.
- Chronic-Care Platform: Design the clinical-engagement layer (adherence, side-effect management) for durable chronic-disease management.
- Platform & Interoperability: Decide whether AHG becomes a connected multi-brand experience or separate products; ensure API-first, standards-based (HL7/FHIR) design.
- Regulated by Design: Partner with Compliance and Clinical to embed HIPAA, telehealth, FDA, and safety requirements into product decisions.
An AI-First Product Organization
- AI in the Product: Treat AI as a core design surface (e.g., triage assistants, ambient documentation, adherence agents) and partner with the CTO on AI/ML platform integration.
- Agentic AI with Oversight: Match human oversight to risk levels (autonomous for low-stakes, human-in-the-loop for medium, clinician review for liability-bearing tasks).
- AI-Native Team: Integrate AI into team workflows (e.g., AI-assisted research, prototyping, analytics) to amplify leverage.
- Trustworthy by Design: Ensure AI features show reasoning, expose confidence, and allow human overrides for trust and liability.
Team & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Build the product organization, including hiring, leveling, and career paths for PMs, designers, and researchers.
- Partner with the CTO and engineering to co-own delivery of the core platform, data products, and AI systems.
- Bridge the executive team and product organization, translating strategy into roadmaps and reporting outcomes at the board level.
What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
- A documented product strategy exists for each business and the portfolio, driving prioritization.
- Discovery, design, user research, and product analytics are established as disciplines with key hires in place.
- The provider EHR has a mapped clinical workflow, ambient-AI strategy, and measured activation funnel by launch.
- Outcome metrics (retention, activation, adherence, NPS) are instrumented and visible to leadership.
- Business-unit leaders treat the CPO as a trusted partner for roadmap negotiations and escalations.
Requirements
- 12+ years in product, with 5+ years in an executive role (CPO, SVP/VP of Product) at a digital health, healthtech, regulated-SaaS, or enterprise-tech company.
- Experience building and scaling multi-product/platform ecosystems, not just managing a single product line.
- Direct experience in regulated environments (healthcare preferred; fintech or similar considered), including HIPAA, telehealth, FDA, or clinical safety.
- Range across consumer DTC subscription products (acquisition, activation, retention) and provider/clinical-facing products (workflow, adoption). Deep expertise in one; demonstrated range in the other.
- Proven partnership with a CTO/engineering leadership to deliver complex products, with a clear demand-vs-supply model.
- Experience standing up product discovery, design, user research, and analytics as disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience shipping AI-powered features (LLM/agentic-AI preferred), with a point of view on oversight and safety.
