About the role

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) acts as a principal assistant to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the effective administration, operational, and financial management of all aspects of the facility. The COO serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and collaborates with the CEO and ELT in the overall operations of the hospital, ensuring the effective delivery of services to patients in accordance with the facility’s mission and regulatory requirements. The COO leads (or coordinates with Shared Services Departments) the Support Services Departments, to include Physical Plant, Procurement, Information Technology, Food Services, and Environmental Services.

Responsibilities

Analyze operational needs and develop and adhere to an adequate budget.
Supervise support services departments (Physical Plant, Procurement, Information Technology, Food Services, Environmental Services).
Prepare reports, program plans, contracts, and training materials; manage public contact.
Ensure compliance with State laws, regulations (including CARF), life-safety codes, fire codes, building codes, and facility security procedures.
Build and manage relationships to achieve results through delegation, motivation, and accountability.
Handle ambiguity and change while balancing multiple priorities.
Gather and interpret key data to deliver recommendations and create viable solutions grounded in research and analysis.
Build support, remove barriers, and secure resources to implement change.
Apply critical thinking and decision-making skills to facility operations.

Requirements

Comprehensive knowledge of facility administration.
Good writing and communication skills.
Strong relationship management abilities.
Ability to delegate and hold staff accountable for task completion.

Qualifications

Minimum:

Experience in facility administration.
Knowledge of State laws and regulations applicable to operations, including CARF.
Familiarity with life safety codes, fire codes, building codes, and facility security procedures.

Additional Considerations:

Experience working in a forensic setting.
