Chief of Staff to the CEO
About the role
I'm looking for someone to cover two key functions: a chief of staff who provides real operating leverage—taking meetings in my place, moving things forward without me, and making calls on my behalf—and the executive assistant (EA) work of managing my calendar, travel, and small well-defined tasks. The twist is integrating AI: I want a human plus AI automations, where the human can build and refine those automations themselves. Right now, one of our software engineers is filling this role, but their skills are too valuable elsewhere. Part of this job is helping me figure out the right setup—whether it’s a person, software, or a mix—and you may need to handle EA-like work until we do.
Responsibilities
- Take meetings in my place with anyone: investors, potential customers, government officials, or CEOs looking to partner.
- Act as a reliable EA when needed, handling calendar, travel, and miscellaneous tasks while keeping everything organized.
- Own our most important decks: build high-quality slides quickly and drive decks you don’t write—chasing contributors to ensure the final product is cohesive.
- Learn my point of view and reasoning to make decisions on my behalf.
- Build automated systems with AI (not just prompting) to gradually take over more of the support function.
Skills and Qualifications
- Quick learner who can demonstrate deep understanding of complex subjects.
- Excellent at creating slide decks and project-managing them across non-direct reports.
- Scrappy, with strong follow-through and meticulous attention to detail.
- Calm under pressure, genuinely organized, and able to juggle multiple priorities.
- Skilled at getting good work out of AI models—no software engineering background required, but you must be interested in this evolving landscape.
- Comfortable with spreadsheets and team chat tools (we use Zulip).
Nice to have: Startup or high-growth experience, engineering fluency, U.S. citizenship.
