CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER (Open to Internal Candidates and SRPMIC Members Only)
About the Role
As a member of the Executive Team, the Chief Financial Officer oversees the day-to-day operations of the financial and related functions of the gaming and hospitality operation. Responsible for the overall direction of financial results, including strategic planning, operations, cash management, and high-level concerns. The CFO ensures the protection and preservation of the assets of Casino Arizona and Talking Stick Resort, the effectiveness of direct report subordinates, and the achievement of all objectives assigned through the CEO.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly manages the Accounting Director, Financial Planning & Analysis Director, Cage/Vault Director, and Information Technology Director. Provides guidance to all departments under these roles and oversees budgeting and expense management for construction projects. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving problems in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
Leadership and Community Development
The CFO is expected to actively support Enrolled Community Members (ECMs) in their professional and academic goals through the Pathways to Success Program by:
- Organizational Vision: Articulating and modeling a clear vision for the Pathways to Success programs embedded within the organization’s values and strategic direction.
- Policy Leadership: Developing, endorsing, and enforcing policies that prioritize and incentivize ECM development at all organizational levels.
- Investment in Development: Securing and allocating resources—financial, technological, and human—to support comprehensive development programs.
- Accountability and Transparency: Establishing mechanisms for tracking progress toward development goals and communicating outcomes across the Gaming Enterprises and Board of Directors.
- Role Modeling: Demonstrating ongoing commitment to personal and professional growth, setting a standard for all leaders and team members.
Responsibilities
- Completes all reporting requirements to Community, State, and Federal agencies.
- Assists in safeguarding all assets and ensures compliance and review for improving internal controls as required by regulatory agencies.
- Oversees the cash management program.
- Reviews all financial reports, including monthly financial statements and required filings.
- Prepares financial studies, pro-formas, and analysis of existing and proposed business entities.
- Interprets financial reports, profit and loss statements, and balance sheets, producing comparisons to casino/food & beverage industry trends.
- Makes recommendations on financial projections for special projects and prepares operating budgets for casino operations.
- Develops short and long-range business assumptions and financial projections for special projects.
- Prepares financial policies and procedures, cash handling controls, and internal audit procedures consistent with industry-wide practices and regulatory agencies.
- Assists operational management with financial reports and analysis, making presentations before Tribal Council, departments, and committees as required.
- Ensures financial systems provide information efficiently to required parties.
- Oversees Finance, Information Technology, Purchasing, Count, Compliance, Title 31, and Cage/Vault departments, providing direction for efficient and effective operations.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of PCI (Payment Card Industry) Compliance and Title 31/Anti-Money Laundering regulations through annual training.
- Enforces PCI Compliance regulations to protect cardholder data and reports inappropriate card handling activity.
- Enforces all applicable regulations under the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 31, Chapter X, including observing and reporting suspicious activity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university; MBA/CPA designation required.
- 10 years of related experience in full-time professional-level accounting work, with 10 years of director/management experience of a department.
- 10 years of experience in the financial operations of a hotel/resort or casino preferred.
Skills
- Computer Skills: Knowledge of accounting software, database software, human resource systems, internet software, inventory software, payroll systems, spreadsheet software, and word processing software.
- Strong knowledge of general accounting theories, principles, and practices.
- Good working knowledge of general budgeting principles and practices.
- Skilled in understanding and applying complex rules, regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with State, Federal, and Community officials and managers.
- Ability to handle stressful situations involving customers and employees while maintaining professional composure.
- Flexibility to work extended periods as needed.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Physical Demands
The employee is regularly required to walk and use hands and fingers to handle and feel. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to secondary smoke. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
