Chief Financial Officer

About the role

Establishes and maintains the accounting department's policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems. Ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions. Oversees cost and general accounting, accounts receivable/payable, payroll and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the systems and integrity of accounting, financial reporting, and internal control systems.
• Oversees budget ensuring expenses are within the budget limitations and allocated to proper programs, according to the relevant federal and state laws and policies of the board.
• Ensures all grant conditions are complied with and that the entire financial operation complies with grantee policies, procedures, and standards.
• Maintains and updates, annually, financial manual and accounting procedures.
• Prepares and issues financial reports to the Board of Directors reflecting cash status, cash transactions, functional expenses, and performance in accordance with the approved budget.
• Prepares budgets, budget estimates, and financial reports at the request of the CEO and/or the Board of Directors.
• Aids program staff with budget revisions and new grant proposals.
• Ensures proper tax filings.
• Develops the Indirect Cost Proposal, annually, to submit to the cognizant agency.
• Retains hiring and termination authority for the accounting department.
• Trains, counsels, reviews, coaches, and manages the staff in the accounting department.
• Performs other duties as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business and two - five years of experience working in a computerized accounting office.
• Prior experience within mid-to-large organization and/or non-profit agencies.
• CPA certification is highly desired.
• Must be bondable.
• Experience with a Native American Tribal organization.

Pay

This position is located in our Headquarters office, Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin. This is not a remote position. The position includes the following benefits: pay range of $75,000 - $86,000 annually, depending on years of experience, relevant experience and education.

This is a full-time exempt position.
