Chief Financial Officer

About the role

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a full-time, on-site role based in Chiloquin, OR, responsible for leading all financial operations for The Klamath Tribes. The CFO oversees budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management, ensuring that financial practices support the organization’s strategic and cultural priorities.

Responsibilities

• Manage financial reporting, supervising the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements.
• Maintain internal controls and compliance with Tribal, federal, and state regulations.
• Develop long-range financial plans and advise on funding strategies and investments.
• Provide clear analysis to support decision-making.
• Lead and mentor finance staff, implement process improvements, and support audits and grant reporting requirements.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Finance, with experience overseeing organizational financial operations and strategy.
• Proficiency in Financial Planning and budgeting, including forecasting, resource allocation, and long-term financial modeling.
• Expertise in Financial Reporting and Financial Statements, including preparation, review, and presentation to leadership and governing bodies.
• Advanced Analytical Skills to interpret financial data, identify trends, manage risk, and support evidence-based decisions.
• Experience managing compliance with governmental, grant, and regulatory requirements; familiarity with public sector or Tribal government finance is beneficial.
• Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, with the ability to build and guide a high-performing finance team.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; CPA, CMA, or MBA is preferred.
• Proficiency with financial software and ERP systems, and strong skills in spreadsheets and data analysis tools.
