About the role

Hire Heroes USA is seeking a strategic, charismatic, mission-driven leader to serve as our next Chief Executive Officer. Reporting to the Board of Directors and overseeing a team of 155+ and budget of $20M+, the CEO will build on the organization's strong foundation and successful track record to further elevate our brand, increase funding, forge new partnerships, and shape our future strategy.

The CEO will be responsible for designing and guiding a vision for organizational growth, enabling Hire Heroes USA to scale our services and broaden our reach while simultaneously maintaining our deeply personalized approach. Additionally, the CEO will lead efforts to diversify funding; build new partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholders; continually improve internal systems and processes; manage, motivate, and inspire a national team; and serve with integrity as the public face of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and drive organizational strategy, enabling Hire Heroes USA to scale our programmatic reach and impact while simultaneously preserving our personalized approach.

  • Collaborate with the Board, staff, and key stakeholders to set clear, data-driven goals to grow the organization, enhance our impact, and achieve our mission.

  • Serve as a financial steward for the organization, working in collaboration with the VP, Finance, and Board to ensure that strong financial goals are set and achieved.

  • Develop, maintain, and engage a strong Board of Directors, including supporting strong Board governance; partnering closely with Board committees; and leading quarterly Board meetings.

  • Oversee the successful execution of the organization's day-to-day operations through effective management and empowerment of the senior leadership team, and implementation of best in class systems and processes.

  • Maintain existing funder relationships and implement expanded funding strategies that generate new revenue from various sources, including individual gifts, corporate partnerships, and other sources to diversify funding and ensure organizational sustainability and growth.

  • Foster strategic partnerships and collaborations with external stakeholders, corporate partners, and other organizations to amplify Hire Heroes USA's reach and impact.

  • Serve as a thought leader in the nonprofit / veteran / workforce space; elevate your own and Hire Heroes USA's presence across relevant platforms, audiences, and communities.

  • Enhance brand awareness of Hire Heroes USA and secure increased philanthropic investment, enabling the organization to grow to $50M+ over the next few years.

  • Embody and actively promote Hire Heroes USA's core values of Integrity, Effectiveness, Commitment, Excellence, and Inclusion, leading by example and fostering a mission-centric and values-driven team environment.

  • Manage and mentor a high-performing, diverse team with a commitment to strong staff engagement; authentically motivate and inspire staff to perform at their best and go above and beyond for the service members, veterans, and military spouses they support.

  • Drive organization-wide results with inspirational leadership, effective and supportive management, and well-defined objectives with accountability mechanisms and key performance indicators to track progress.

  • Foster collaboration across the organization; encourage a culture that promotes learning, development, growth, and accountability.

  • Invest in the recruitment and retention of top talent, aligned with Hire Heroes USA's core values; empower and develop team members to perform at their best and reach their full potential.

Who you'll work with

The CEO will report to Hire Heroes USA's Board of Directors and work especially closely with the Chairman of the Board. Additionally, the CEO will directly manage a senior leadership team of 4 and be responsible for an overall team of 155+. Learn more about the Board and Leadership Team.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Deep alignment to Hire Heroes USA's organizational culture and core values, including a strong appreciation and understanding of the military veteran community.

  • A minimum of 5+ years of executive leadership experience (i.e.: CEO or divisional leadership), with demonstrated ability to manage the strategic, operational, and human capital needs of a national organization.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with an ability to connect with a wide range of audiences in a variety of settings (e.g. media engagements, Board meetings, donor pitches, government meetings, etc.).

  • Proven experience building and managing large, complex, high-performing teams to achieve ambitious goals; a highly collaborative and values-aligned leadership approach.

  • Demonstrated success developing and translating vision into strategy, and a track record of designing and implementing plans for achieving ambitious growth.

  • Strong outcomes orientation with an ability to make data-driven decisions and maintain a constant eye on Hire Heroes USA's highest priorities in a dynamic environment.

  • Demonstrated success generating revenue, including a proven track record of raising capital across a wide variety of revenue streams; experience with corporate partnerships and/or major gifts is preferred.

  • Proven track record of finding, retaining, and cultivating strong collaborative partnerships over time.

  • Experience leading geographically dispersed teams in a hybrid work environment.

  • Ability to travel and have a presence at team, Board, and donor/partner meetings as needed.

Additional Details

Hire Heroes USA is headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia and currently operates in a remote/hybrid fashion. As the organization evolves, the CEO will lead the charge in redefining our workplace strategy, transitioning the team from current hybrid practices to a unified, in-person operational model. To effectively lead this transition by example, the CEO will ideally be based in the Atlanta, Georgia area (strongly preferred) or in another strategic hub for the organization. Candidates who are willing to relocate to the Atlanta area will be eligible for relocation support. The CEO will be expected to travel as needed for team meetings, donor cultivation, and other events, with some seasonal expectations exceeding 60%.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $250K - $300K annually, depending on prior experience and qualifications; additionally, there is opportunity for performance-based compensation as the organization grows and key performance indicators are met.
