About the role
The Westin Westminster is seeking an experienced and hands-on Chief Engineer to lead our Engineering Department. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of the hotel’s physical operations, including maintenance, repair, safety, and energy management. The Chief Engineer ensures that all systems and facilities operate efficiently, safely, and in accordance with Marriott brand standards and local regulations. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong technical knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining a well-functioning and welcoming environment for guests and associates.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operation of the Engineering Department, including supervision of maintenance staff and scheduling of shifts and projects.
- Ensure the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems.
- Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public spaces, mechanical rooms, and back-of-house areas to ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness standards.
- Manage preventive maintenance programs and coordinate capital improvement projects.
- Maintain records of maintenance logs, inspections, vendor contracts, and equipment warranties.
- Cooky with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and services.
- Ensure compliance with all safety codes, fire regulations, and environmental policies.
- Oversee the maintenance of pool, spa, and fitness facilities where applicable.
- Collaborate with other departments to support smooth hotel operations and respond to maintenance requests promptly.
- Monitor department budget, control expenses, and track energy usage for efficiency.
- Train, motivate, and develop engineering staff while promoting teamwork and accountability.
- Serve as property Safety Officer and support emergency response and disaster preparedness planning.
- Participate in weekly leadership and operational meetings and report on maintenance and project updates.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in hotel or facility maintenance leadership required.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Proven leadership and team management skills in a hotel or large facility environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Working knowledge of building codes, OSHA, and fire safety regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and maintenance tracking systems.
- CPO (Certified Pool Operator), EPA, or trade certifications preferred.
- Flexible availability including weekends, evenings, and on-call duties.
