About the role
The Chief Engineer serves as a technical engineering leader at JLL, overseeing the efficient, safe, and responsible operation of all building systems and equipment across multiple shifts in support of 24/7 critical building operations.
Responsibilities
- Oversight of maintenance and continuous operation of all critical building systems with zero downtime tolerance
- Serving as the primary escalation point for technical issues
- Supervising and managing a technical engineering team across multiple shifts including hiring, training, coaching and personal development
- Create, implement and routinely update documented planned maintenance procedures, prioritizing critical technical work and high-complexity preventive maintenance tasks
- Cooking, leading and responding to off-hour and emergency work order responses, ensuring resolution of issues affecting building operations
- Participating regularly in client-facing and property team communications, serving as the technical subject matter expert
- Selecting, scheduling, supervising and directing contractors for technical and specialized work; monitoring and documenting performance as necessary
- Leading and organizing ongoing technical, safety, and operational process training programs and procedures with focus on critical systems expertise
- Collaborating with the second Chief Engineer and maintenance coordinator to balance workload
Requirements
- 7+ years of related experience, especially as a Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer or similar in critical operations environments
- People management experience (leading a team) with demonstrated ability to drive efficiency and accountability
- Strong technical expertise in complex building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety and building automation
- Trade school education, union training, military service or college is desirable
- Universal CFC EPA certification
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and serve as primary point of contact during critical failures
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfort using ladders up to 30 feet tall
- Frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting and/or driving
- Strong customer service and communication skills with ability to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience managing on-call rotations and coordinating emergency response
