Chief Engineer
About the role
The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems throughout the hotel, as well as managing the Engineering and Security Departments. This includes establishing and maintaining preventative maintenance programs for all equipment, systems, guestrooms, and public areas; leading effective safety programs; coordinating and implementing capital MEP improvement projects; and managing outside contracts and the engineering department's workflow for repairs, maintenance, mechanical systems, FF&E, and Life Safety Systems.
Key responsibilities
- Perform, assign, and/or verify completion of routine and emergency maintenance and operation of the physical structure, all mechanical systems, and any other systems affecting facility operations
- Ensure the highest quality work standards are being performed by staff in all tasks and assignments according to performance and safety standards
- Ensure execution of exemplary customer service standards by self and staff at all times
- Assist with selection, training, supervision, development, discipline, and counseling of staff in accordance with departmental and company policies
- Assist in utilization of on-line work order system and distribute workflow in the most efficient manner
- Maintain inventory of PPE, engineering parts, supplies, tools, and materials for the department
- Support and assure compliance with all company and departmental policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal regulations
- Assist with implementation of the management company's environmental policies and practices
- Assist with implementation of safety programs
- Attend staff meetings and Safety Committee meetings when requested
- Perform any necessary repairs or maintenance as required or assigned
- Execute Performance Evaluations for associates
- Perform Risk Management duties as assigned
- Conduct self as a resource for all departments of the property
- Maintain a professional image at all times
- Maintain cleanliness and integrity of mechanical areas, shops, tool carts, and tools
- Perform special projects as assigned by the General Manager
- Be available 24/7 for emergency contact
- Be available to work any shift as deemed necessary
Qualifications
- Minimum five years' experience in facilities management of hospitality-related properties
- Proven track record in managing an efficient workforce focusing on preventative maintenance of public areas, guestrooms, and physical plant
- Experience in organizing, implementing, and maintaining a preventative maintenance tracking system and work order system
- Experience in coordinating and managing hospitality capital improvement projects (public areas and guestroom renovations, FF&E repair and reupholstering, FF&E procurement, site and building maintenance and upgrades)
- Proven command of the English language, both oral and written
- Proven ability to take charge and work with minimum supervision
- Enjoys challenges and situations where solutions are not obvious
- Able to make decisions in a high stress environment
- Strong PC skills with an emphasis on Excel

Safety requirements
OSHA laws require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing work duties that have a potential risk to health or safety. Required equipment includes back support belts, protective gloves, eye protection, breathing protection, hearing protection, lock-out/tag-out protection, and any other equipment necessary to provide a safe working environment. All work duties will be evaluated and regular scheduled training and refresher training will be conducted as required by law. Associates will be trained on the use and care of all required PPE equipment. The Hotel provides required PPE and it is the responsibility of the engineer to wear this equipment as it relates to daily work assignments. It is your responsibility to report defective, damaged, or lost PPE to your Manager. Follow all Safety Policies and Procedures.
